Chesapeake Behavior Change
Inspiring Action, Fostering Stewardship
Our survey tool, conducted for the EPA-led Chesapeake Bay Program Partnership, measures behavior and intention across 21 personal stewardship actions that would have a positive impact on the Bay, connected waters, and surrounding lands. Facilitating a team that includes federal and state agency members and non-profit organizations, we have developed a six-step behavior change methodology grounded in the principles of Community Based Social Marketing.
That primer, along with the full interactive survey dataset, are presented on the Bay Program’s website Chesapeake Behavior Change. The intent is to make both rich behavioral data (6,561 interviews conducted across the watershed), a primer on social science best practices, and a case study database accessible to a broad array of practitioners who are trying to engage residents in better environmental stewardship.
