OpinionWorks has
conducted a national survey of general surgeons
practicing in rural areas for the James Mithoefer Center
for Rural Surgery, based in Upstate New York. This
survey is the first of its kind, examining the
background, training, working conditions, and
challenges of surgeons who have chosen to
practice in the most rural and under-served areas
of the United States, and comparing those to
their urban counterparts.
We are proud to have contributed the field
research for this important study that has
recently been published in the Journal of the
American College of Surgeons. The Mithoefer
Center is dedicated to improving access to health
care in rural areas by training and advocating
for rural surgeons.
